The Power of Perspective: What a Fallen Tree in the Woods Taught Me About Cancer Support

I have walked the same path through the local woods thousands of times. My dog knows every scent, and I know every turn. On this path, there is an old, weathered fallen tree. It has always struck me as beautiful, but for years, I couldn't capture that beauty on camera. I had hundreds of "almost" photos—blurry, dark, or flat.

It wasn't the tree that needed to change. It was my lens. After seeking expert advice on lighting and composition, everything clicked. This morning, framed by the spring bluebells, I finally saw it clearly.

In my work with Side by Side Cancer Support, I see this every day. A cancer diagnosis is like that tree—heavy, weathered, and suddenly blocking the path you thought you were on. Families often feel they are "walking the woods" alone, overwhelmed by the shadows of medical jargon and complex systems.

They don't need a new path; they need a new perspective. They need someone to help them adjust the lens so they can see the "bluebells"—the moments of clarity, the advocacy they deserve, and the holistic support that keeps the focus on the person, not just the patient.

I'm here to walk side by side with you.
